Client support

Independent client support: free help that stands beside you

You don’t have to do it alone. Every municipality must offer free independent client support.

You don’t have to do it alone. There is free help from someone who stands beside you: the independent client supporter.

Many people don’t know this exists, or that it’s free. Yet every municipality is legally required to offer it, separate from the municipality itself. So the supporter takes your side, not the desk’s.

Below you can read what such a person can do for you, and how to request it.

What does a client supporter do?

1

Think along about your situation

Look together at what you need and which help fits, before you make an application.

2

Come along to meetings

For example to the home assessment with the municipality. A second pair of ears helps, and you’re not alone.

3

Speak on your behalf

The supporter knows the rules and may speak for you, so you don’t have to explain everything yourself.

4

Help with objecting

If an application is rejected, the supporter can help you object.

How do you request it?

1

Ask for it explicitly

Call or email your municipality and ask for ‘independent client support’. It’s not always offered unprompted, so use those words.

2

It’s always free

You don’t have to worry about costs. The municipality pays for this; it’s free for you.

3

You may use it at any step

Whether you’re just starting, in the middle of an application or already have a rejection: you may ask for support at any time.

🤝 Good to know: youth care also has its own independent confidential counsellor, and with care providers the complaints officer helps. All free.
