Autism in men ยท treatment

No cure, but a framework to understand yourself

Autism is not a condition that you treat in the sense of curing it. However, there is targeted support for the areas where men with autism most often get stuck.

Important in advance: this page explains what types of support exist. It is not treatment advice. You determine what is appropriate for you together with a specialized practitioner or coach.
The route

What a treatment program could look like

1

A specialized diagnosis

A diagnostician with experience in autism in adults maps out your entire life story, not just the current symptoms.

2

Psychoeducation

Understanding how autism works for you often immediately gives you more control over patterns that you have known for years without explanation.

3

Coaching at work

Targeted guidance on planning, prioritizing and communication in the workplace, tailored to how you function best.

4

Relationship and family guidance

Support for you and your partner or family, aimed at mutual understanding of what autism does and does not mean for the relationship.

5

Adjustments where necessary

Consider a quieter workplace, clear agreements in advance, or more space to recover after socially intensive periods.

โš ๏ธ this is not medical advice and not a diagnosis. Autism can only be diagnosed by a specialized diagnostician.
Who can look into it

What you can ask yourself

1

Ask for a diagnostician for adults

Not every diagnostician has experience with late diagnosis in men. Ask specifically about this.

2

Name the starting point specifically

Was there a specific event that led to this? This helps a diagnostician to place your story correctly.

3

Involve your partner or family where possible

They often recognise patterns that are difficult to identify yourself, and are also affected by the outcome.

4

Seek free support if you get stuck

If you cannot find a solution with care, an independent client support worker can you think along. That's free.
